Cashman Nabs $3.4 Million Beals Harbor Dredging Contract
In Beals, Beals Harbor, and Pig Island Gut Federal Navigation project maintenance dredging, Maine, by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in New England received a $3.4 million dollar contract in terms of completion.
Cashman Dredging and Marine Contracting Company of Quincy, Mass, has authorized to complete the project.
Dredging is planned to start on November 8, 2016, or before and it will take a few months to complete.
“Work consists of mechanically dredging approximately 100,000 cubic yards of clay, silt, and sand, with unconfined disposal at the Mark Island Disposal Site, about 5 miles away,” said Project Manager Jack Karalius, of the Corps’ New England District, Programs and Project Management Division in Concord, Mass.
“Removal of about 30 tons of heavy boulders, large debris, and derelict moorings also will be required.”
Port Beals, known as the Barneys little bay, is located on the northwest side of Beals Island along the Moosabec River, about 38 miles southwest of port Jones and southwest of Eastport. The project includes a 10-foot-deep in the port of anchorage.
The contract was awarded on April 20, 2016.
