Dredging Corp Wins Kolkata Port Dredging Contract
Dredging Corporation of India Ltd (DCI) has been carrying out the maintenance dredging works for Kolkata Port channels. The contract is worth Rs 1,119-crore, which is awarded on a nomination basis by the government of India.
The project will include maintenance dredging operations in the shipping channels leading to Haldia Dock Complex in the Hooghly Estuary for a period of five years, beginning from January 2017.
In the past, DCI used to dredge about 24 mn cubic meters per year by deploying six dredgers at Jellingham and Auckland bars.
Under the new contract, the quantum of dredging has been reduced to about 8 mn cubic meters per year consequent to opening up of the Eden channel and DCI will execute the contract by deploying three dredgers.
