The Banshkhali Channel Maintenance Dredging Project, located along the eastern coast of the Bay of Bengal in the Banshkhali region, has been successfully completed. The main scope of work involved channel maintenance dredging with an average discharge distance of 2,600 meters and a total dredging volume of 2.6 million cubic meters. The dredged material mainly consisted of silt and silty clay.
During construction, the project faced numerous challenges, including narrow navigation channels, high traffic from passing vessels, and significant siltation. But it has now been successfully completed.
Upon completion, the project enables the 24-hour passage of coal-carrying vessels with capacities exceeding 5,000 tons. It ensures the full-load operation of Units 1 and 2, with a total installed capacity of 1,320 MW, greatly alleviating the power shortage in the Chittagong region of Bangladesh.
