Next Round of Port Gamble Bay Cleanup

A major cleanup project t will start this summer at the Port Gamble Bay; it will dig up and remove more decades-old contaminated sediments, creosoted pilings and other materials.

Local residents are invited to an April 26 meeting in Port Gamble to see the latest news of the project in the second stage of clean water.

The first stages proceed between September 2015 and January 2016.

Remove the waste wood, creosote coating structure and the pile foundation and sediment pollution protection and improvement of the bay, shellfish, fish and the overall health of the people.

Ecology of the staff will give introduced, and asked about the upcoming in-water cleanup at the Port Gamble Bay and Mill site. The contractor will begin in June, piling, and expand the cleanup in mid-July.

Port of Rauma Dredging Contract Awarded

 

Two major construction projects will start this month at the Port of Rauma, Finland.

The port and his partner’s forwarders, Finland will maximize the Rauma channel extended 10 to 12 meters.

WASA Dredging won this contract nominated for the channel deepening project.

At the same time, Port of Rauma will build more berths for container ships and a new storage area for containers, expanding the current container terminal. Destia Oy is the principal contractor appointed for the container terminal expansion project.

Environmental considerations play an important role in the implementation of both projects and the environmental impacts of the work on the marine environment are monitored throughout the project.

The share of Port of Rauma will cost about EUR 34 million and the share of the Finnish Transport Agency about EUR 28 million.

The work will be finished by the end of 2017.

Damen Cutter Suction Dredgers for Saudi Border Guard

Saudi Border Guard has acquired two Damen cutter suction dredgers (CSD 450) for harbor maintenance duties.

Two CSDs 450, with a maximum dredging depth of -12 m and a mixture production of 3,000 m3/h, which were to be fitted out with an extensive list of options, containing an accommodation unit and positioning, navigation and communication equipment.

Except for these, the independence of the dredgers was assured adding the anchor boom installation, meanwhile, the efficiency was boosted by adding a spud carriage pontoon.

The delivery also included two complete dredging packages.

These packages consist of both stationary dredgers plus their floating and shore pipelines, a full system of spares, and training. This training will be given to the crew on the job.

The cutter suction dredgers will be based at different border guard stations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Jeddah on the Red Sea and Dammam in the Gulf Area.

They will perform various maintenance dredging jobs independently, like clearing the areas at jetties and keeping harbors to depth.

All Ready For Naval Amphibious Base Maintenance Dredging

The new maintenance dredging just has been announced by The Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, CA. Its dredging schedule starts from Tuesday, April 12th to Tuesday, May 10th.

The maintenance dredging of the surrounding pier is being processed in order to re-establish the minimum required harbor depths needed for the naval vessels that use these facilities

GLDD Ready For The Next Season Of Lake Decatur Dredging

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock of Oak Brook, Illinois is going to start one more season – the third of six – of clearing out sediment from the bottom of Lake Decatur.

As Engineering Services Coordinator Jerry Stevens, crews have been working this week to reassemble the dredge operation as they prepare to resume dredging Friday, April 1st.

“We have about three more months in the Big Creek Basin, and we will also start in Sand Creek, which will take about a year to complete,” Stevens said.

The dredging crews have removed around 2.8 million cubic yards of sediment out of the planned 10 million cubic yards till now.

By the time the project wraps up in 2019, Lake Decatur should have an increased water capacity of 30 percent, which equals about 72 days of additional drinking water.

Long Beach Island Dune Project Moves Step Forward

A contract has been awarded for phase one of the Long Beach Island Dune Project. By U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Representative Kathleen Rice.

The contract was awarded to H&L Contracting. It includes groin rehabilitation and construction of new groins.

And the estimated cost of the initial construction of the project is $230 million.

The Government is paying 100 percent of the cost of initial construction of the project using Sandy relief funds and 65 percent of the future renourishment costs subject to additional appropriation
