Jan de Nul Wins Maputo Port Dredging Contract
Jan de Nul Dredging Middle East of the UAE-based company, signed the Maputo port dredging contract with the EPDM, the main shareholders in the Maputo Port Development Company, MPDC last week.
The project will be financed by BCI, commercial Banks and investment banks, led by a consortium of Banks funding, estimates of the more than $100 million of the contract.
Dredging operations, from the current 11 meters Maputo Port-channel to deepen 14.2 meters, will last for ten months, involving three large sand-excavating ships.
Preparatory work has been carried out, and Jan de Nul said, they could start the actual dredging in early May.
An estimated 30 million cubic meters of sediment from the 17 km long passage was removed.
The dredging program is just one of a series of projects Port of Maputo, MPDC, and all kinds of terminal business started recently.
The recovery of 6、7、and 8 is currently being evaluated and the goal is to be carried out in 2016.
All these developments will ensure the port to meet the growing demand and achieve significantly higher output each year.
