Pipe floats also called Polythene float or pipe floater. Its shell is polythene, filling in polymer foam body. The suction hose and the discharge hose are respectively connected at the two ends of the dredger. One end is connected to the pump, the other end is connected to the steel pipe. A company was awarded the 3 million dollars contract to remove 57,000 cubic yards of sand from 2.7miles of the Intracoastal waterway in the vicinity of Moriches Inlet and the Coast Guard station. This area became treacherous last season for boaters. This overall operation is much smaller than the inlet project, requiring less support equipment and a smaller pipe but is still impressive.

Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company finished pumping sand on March 17 and are in the process of breaking down the piping and equipment. The 10 million dollars contract called for a 15-foot high dune and 140 feet of beach and as you will see in the photos they provided at least that much.

The structure of pipe floaters is simple and practical, and also convenient for assembly. The outer shell of the floaters are made of medium-density polyethylene and filled with polyurethane foam.
