On August 9, 2024, around 1 PM, an explosion occurred at the port of Ningbo, China. Taiwan Yangming Shipping Co said its YM Mobility cargo ship caught fire at Zhoushan Port in Ningbo.
The container explosion occurred on the “YM Mobility” ship of Liberian nationality, a transit ship, from Shanghai to Jakarta, Indonesia, a total of 20 crew members. Fortunately, no one was caused. The relevant departments preliminary determined that the explosive materials included tert-butyl benzoate peroxide.
Tert-butyl benzoate peroxide is a colorless to yellowish liquid. Non-toxic, flammable and explosive materials, need to be stored in a cool, ventilated environment sealed. To stay away from fire, heat sources, to prevent direct sunlight, the library temperature should not exceed 30℃.
For this accident, the insurance company will pay for the objective related losses, but the indirect losses for the shipowner, shipper and port and are very large.
